vCIO / consulting

A fractional CIO running your strategy, budget and vendor governance.

For companies that need IT strategy but can’t justify a full-time CIO. We become the board’s technical counterpart: we translate business priorities into roadmap, budget and metrics — and sit at the table where decisions get made.

What's included

  • Tech roadmap on a 12–24 month horizon aligned with the business plan.
  • Annual IT budget with OPEX, CAPEX, projects and a spend dashboard.
  • Vendor governance: contracts, SLAs, renewals and cost benchmarks.
  • Quarterly board reporting with KPIs, risks and progress.
  • Selection and technical leadership of major projects (ERP, ecommerce, plant).
  • Targeted diagnostics: tech due diligence for M&A, ISO/LOPDP gap analysis.

Who it's for

  • Companies of 50–300 employees where IT matters but doesn’t need a full-time CIO.
  • Operations with multiple tech vendors and no central governance.
  • Investment, M&A or change-of-control processes that need technical due diligence.

How we work

  1. Kickoff with owner/CEO/board to understand the plan and real constraints.
  2. Technical diagnostic in 4 weeks: current stack, people, cost, tech debt.
  3. Written roadmap with horizon, dependencies and cost — reviewed quarterly.
  4. Ongoing engagement: 1 to 4 days a month depending on size, with seats on key committees.

FAQ

Which companies justify a vCIO?

Companies where IT is at least 1.5–3% of operating spend and that run at least one strategic project per year (migration, ERP, ecommerce, M&A). Below that, the managed-support service is usually enough.

How do you charge?

Fixed monthly retainer with defined hour blocks. For one-off engagements (due diligence, gap analysis) we scope by deliverable. No license cross-selling, no hidden commissions — the incentive is giving you the best advice, not pushing product.

Can you work with my in-house IT?

Yes — it actually works better that way. The vCIO doesn’t compete with internal IT; it provides strategic backing and a voice at the board.
