FRESHCARGO
OpenWRT firewall, NextCloud NAS and WiFi segmentation
3
segmented networks
24/7
automated backups
FRESHCARGO needed a controllable network perimeter and backups that didn’t depend on an external drive in a drawer. We deployed a custom OpenWRT firewall, a FreeNAS server running NextCloud for backup and internal collaboration, and segmented the WiFi network so offices, operations and guests no longer shared one flat connection.
The challenge
Like any logistics operation, continuity matters more than the latest cloud trend. A flat network, manual backups and a WiFi shared between operations and visitors were a daily risk nobody was actually watching.
What we did
- OpenWRT firewall with per-VLAN rules, DNS control and outbound traffic logging.
- FreeNAS server running NextCloud for automated backups of key endpoints and internal collaboration without leaning on public cloud.
- WiFi segmented into three networks — operations, offices and guests — with policies and isolation between them.
Results
- Auditable perimeter: leadership sees what enters and leaves the network.
- Daily backups with history — no longer dependent on someone remembering to plug a drive in.
- Operations, offices and guests no longer share a network — a compromised guest device can’t reach the rest.
