ANECACAO

Perimeter security with PFSense, intrusion detection and QNAP NAS

ANECACAO — Ecuador’s National Association of Cacao Exporters — coordinates sensitive information across exporters. That coordination needed an auditable perimeter security layer, real-time intrusion detection and a centralized repository for information backup.

The challenge

The network perimeter was open, files lived on individual workstations, and there was no way to know whether someone had tried to break in — only to find out after the fact.

What we did

  • PFSense at the edge: advanced firewall, VPN for remote users and per-service traffic rules.
  • Intrusion-detection (IDS) with alerts pushed to the support team whenever something doesn’t add up.
  • Centralized QNAP NAS with automated backups and per-area permissions.

Results

  • Controlled, auditable perimeter; break-in attempts get logged.
  • Information centralized and backed up — members no longer rely on a local drive.
  • The association stopped improvising its security every time a vendor changed.
